Planned Changes to Walk-In Service and Other Urgent Appointments

We are always trying to get the balance right of offering urgent access when it is needed but still having capacity to offer routine appointments for more routine and long term conditions.

Over the last few months we have been aware of more and more comments from patients about how difficult it can be to get routine GP appointments.

As a result of this we are looking into re-designing our urgent appointment system to free up GP time and improve access for routine appointments.

This will involve running an Urgent Care System where patients will be seen by Nurses or Paramedics who have had extra training to deal with these problems. There will always be a GP available for advice and to see patients with more complex problems.

We have considered your feedback and discussed it with our PPG, and so our new service launched on Tuesday 2nd October 2018. This will continue to be monitored through patient and Clinician feedback.
