All Services

We have a provided a full list of services that we provide.

Child Healthcare

Health visitors working with the practice offer support to families with young children and check that growth and development is OK. This is arranged in clinics and sometimes on home visits. The 6 week baby check is done by the doctors.

Chronic Disease

We put a lot of effort in to reviewing and treating long-term conditions such as diabetes, asthma, chronic bronchitis, coronary heart disease and high blood pressure.

The Practice and Community Nurses provide much of this care following national and local guidance and are supported by the Doctors in the Practice.

The practice provides most contraceptive methods including fitting and removal of implants and coils for female patients. Please speak to your doctor for further details.

If discussing contraception for the first time or changing to a new method please book an appointment with your doctor, otherwise arrange your check-ups with the Practice Nurse.

Counselling Services

An NHS Primary Care Counsellor provides a counselling service at Strensall and Stamford Bridge Surgeries for adults from age 18.

Counselling is a talking therapy that can be useful when you are experiencing emotional difficulties; when you are upset or worried about your feelings, your thoughts or the way you are behaving. Your counsellor will not offer advice but will work with you to help you make your own decisions about your life.

Counselling is offered on a time limited basis, during working hours (Wednesday mornings at Strensall and Wednesday afternoons at Stamford Bridge).

Referral is usually made by your General Practitioner.

Extended Hours

As some of our patients find it difficult to attend daytime sessions during the working week, we now provide a number of pre-bookable appointments on some evenings and Saturday mornings. These can be booked by contacting the surgery during normal working hours.

Please note that the Practice is closed for normal services between 6pm and 8am on weekdays and throughout the weekend, even if the building is open for late or weekend surgery appointments. If all appointments have been taken during the extended hour’s surgery we are normally able to see you but this will not be until the next available routine appointment.

If you would like medical advice before we re-open for normal services, please contact NHS111 (by dialling 111).

Immunisations – Childhood

We recommend immunisation in line with current Department of Health advice. See the Childhood Immunisations section on NHS Direct for full details.

Immunisations – Routine

Tetanus: A booster is advised if it is 10 or more years since your last immunisation and you have not had a total of 5 doses in your life.

Influenza: Yearly influenza immunisation is advised for everyone aged 65 or over and to others in high risk health groups. You will be sent a letter each October to remind you if this applies to you. Carers are also eligible for influenza immunisation.

Pneumonia: A single immunisation usually gives protection for life. This is recommended for patients aged 65 and over and others prone to infection with conditions such as COPD, diabetes or splenectomy.

Maternity Care

We encourage anyone considering pregnancy to book with a doctor for advice before becoming pregnant. You are advised to be take daily folic acid tablets before becoming pregnant and to check that you are immune to rubella.

Pregnancy care is shared between by the midwives and doctors in the practice.

You can request an appointment, if you need to be seen for any of the following conditions:

  • Hay fever

  • Urine infections/cystitis
  • Sore throats

Minor Surgery

We have a specialised GP who can perform ‘minor’ surgical procedures including joint injections at our surgeries.

See your usual doctor for advice if you think you need treatment. Any intended treatment will be explained to you and you will be asked to sign a consent form to record your agreement before treatment.

New Patients

Please complete a new patient questionnaire when you register with the practice. This records details of your medical background and lifestyle which will help the doctor when you first attend.

Private Medical Examinations and Reports

If you have a form or report that requires completion by a doctor please enquire at reception. Please note that most reports are not part of NHS work and there will usually be a fee. Fees are displayed at the reception desk.

We are also happy to undertake private medical examinations by appointment. When booking be sure to mention the examination required so that we can allow sufficient time and advise you of the likely charge. Also make sure that you have the necessary paperwork with you or that it has already been received by us before your appointment.
